Getting ready for a missions meeting of sorts. We are partnering with San Miguel Community Church to do a community wide Youth Olympics for kids in K-6th grades. We will also do this in conjunction with a church from Houston Texas who will send a team of 25 young people here to help us with this event. It’s really cool to be able to partner with other churches in and near the community as well as churches all over country. We really need to have a team mentality when trying to reach this huge community. So, this is one event where a couple of churches will reach out to the community together to show we are ONE CHURCH. Today’s meeting will be full of planning, laughing, pizza, and excitement as we figure out how best to get the word out and get some kids fired up to participate.
Riley and I had the great opportunity to be at the US OPEN golf tournament on Saturday June 14. It’s been one of my goals to experience The Open and it lived up to all I could have hoped. It was extra special because it’s Father’s Day weekend and Riley got to go with me. We’ve shared a lot of golf memories over the years and this one will rank right up there at the top.
We followed Phil Mickelson (Riley’s favorite golfer) for several holes. We were on the first tee when Tiger teed off. We made it on national tv for NBC as I had Riley on my shoulders and the camera caught a very cool dad and son moment. This US OPEN is proving to be arguably the best of all time with a Monday playoff going on right now between Tiger Woods and the affable Rocco Mediate. Rocco had to qualify through various tournaments just to make it into the worlds best tournament. So, it’s an amazing story, Cinderella Story…former greenskeeper about to become Open Champion…Caddyshack…
Just a quick intro to our worship leader Koby Orr. He just got back from his honeymoon…notice the smile!
And this is Roberto and a quick view on Friday as we get ready for a great Sunday!
We have been given the opportunity to stay at our friend’s beach house in Mission Beach for free! What a great place. There’s just something about the beach the calms and relaxes the moment we smell the ocean air. The water has been great, Aidan has been full of sand most of the time, Riley has been getting braver moving further out into the surf, catching some waves and sand crabs. I now have burns on places of my body I had no idea the sun could get to. All part of the experience Russ. (Vacation…Chevy Chase…)
Awesome Sunday. 12 people baptized, very exciting to have our first people take the plunge into Otay Lake near our church. see the pictures at http://gallery.mac.com/jmcgarity#100023
